"The Holiday Programme/Leadership Training workshop reinforced concepts I was already familiar with but also gave me more confidence to lead a holiday programme I had not previously been involved in. It was fun to learn a range of games and interactive activities that I could put into practice both at the holiday programme and at school."

Parents Supporting Play (PSP) Parents Supporting Play

Parents Supporting Play (PSP) aims to empower parents with the knowledge and confidence to support their children through play. Parents are accomplished at time management, communication, planning and goal setting. These skills can be transferred from the home to the playground enabling parents to take a leading role in their child’s physical development and learning.

At PSP sessions parents will learn:
  • to identify stages of growth and development in children.
  • to identify personalities and the impact on physical participation.
  • how to gain confidence in order to take an active role in a child’s physical development.
  • to implement appropriate physical activities to support and stimulate children through play
  • the distinct differences in male and female play.
  • how the identified age and stage may affect a child’s participation in physical activity.
  • to consider the various needs and unique perspectives of individual children.

Sessions are run in conjunction with the school.

Contact  robyn@wilss.ac.nz  for more information about PSP

PSP workshops will provide parents with the knowledge of where children are at, in relation to their cognitive, physical and emotional wellbeing. Parents would then be able to utilise this age specific knowledge and confidence, and with the support of the school, run lunchtime activities based around play, leading on to helping coach, manage or run sporting events or teams within the school/community.
