Officiating

WILSS also partners with a number of other sports to support officiating courses.

We are able to provide unit standard based courses towards the National Certificate in Officiating Level 3. These can be integrated with the individual sport codes current officiating programmes. Examples of how we have done this with other sports can be seen with the New Zealand Rugby Union's You Make the Call and the Waikato Hockey Association's Whistle Up programmes' and Netball New Zealand.

Contact us today to find out more about how this could work for your sport on 07 839 9908 or complete the form at the bottom of this page.

Whistle Up

Student umpires that graduate from the programme will gain 10 NZQA credits at Level 3, Unit Standard 31388. (Carry out pre-event preparation and apply the rules of sport while officiating sports events).

The student umpires attend umpire training modules during the season and are required to umpire at least 20 games during that time. The umpire trainer will observe at least 3 of these games and provide feedback to support their students development process. Student umpires are expected to complete the module assessments, keep a reflective diary and implement a personal improvement plan.

There is no cost for the student umpire and application forms can be accessed direct from Waikato Hockey Association at umpires@waikatohockey.org.nz

Applications open in early April of each year and the programme runs between May and December.
