Officiating
WILSS partners with several sporting organisations to support their
officiating programmes.
WILSS offer an NZQA unit standard based programme that dovetails into your sport’s current officiating programme. Participants that complete the programme will gain Unit Standard 31388 - Carry out pre-event preparation and apply the rules of sport while officiating sports events - 31388.pdf (nzqa.govt.nz). This unit standard is worth 10 credits at level 3 and can be counted towards a secondary school students NCEA. WILSS works closely with the student’s school to ensure this credit is recorded with NZQA.
The first step is for the sporting organisation to have its officiating programme endorsed by WILSS to ensure all the learning content of the unit standard are covered. WILSS can work with the sporting organisation to fill any gaps if necessary.
The next step is for the sporting organisation to recruit the participants and let WILSS know their details, including which school they go to if they are at secondary school.
The sporting organisation will then complete their endorsed officiating programme. WILSS will supply the sporting organisation with an observation rubric that is specific to their sport to record three observations of the participant officiating. The participant will also need to complete a logbook to record their hours. Once complete, the sporting organisation will confirm that their officiating programme was completed and sends the rubric and logbook to WILSS for marking.
WILSS will support the sporting organisations during the year to complete the programme and provide teaching resources where necessary. Ideally the programme would be completed over one year, but it can roll over into future years if necessary. The cost for the programme in 2023 will be $38.50 + GST per person, although we are open to negotiating a bulk purchase rate as well.
In 2023 we are working with:
NZ Rugby
Mainland Football
